A Study on the Effects of Cognitive Function, Behavioral Problems, and Activity Daily Living Skills on Caregiver's Burden in Patients with Early-onset Alzheimer's Disease

Abstract

|
Objective : This study was conducted to find out the status of early-onset Alzheimer s dementia patients and to examine the effects of cognitive function, behavioral problems, and activity daily living skills on the caregiver s burden.
Methods : General characteristics, cognitive function, behavioral problems, activity daily living skills, and
caregiver¡¯s burden were examined. 4 items of cognitive function, 6 items of behavioral problem, 9 items of basic activity daily living skill, and 7 items of instrumental activity daily living skill were set as independent variables, and analysis was conducted with caregiver¡¯s burden as a dependent variable.
Results : Among the independent variables of cognitive function, behavioral problems, and activity daily living skills of patients with early-onset dementia, variables that have a significant influence on caregiver¡¯s burden were memory (cognitive function), personal hygiene (basic activity daily living skill), and dressing (basic activity daily living skill).
Conclusion : The cognitive function and activity daily living skill of early-onset Alzheimer s dementia patients
were found to affect the caregiver s burden.
